What Is an Affiliate Link (and Why I Use Them)

If you’ve ever clicked a link from one of my blog posts or emails and wondered, “What does it mean that this is an affiliate link?” you’re not alone.
I wanted to take a minute to explain what that means, how it works, and how it supports my work here at Violet Loops.

What Is an Affiliate Link?
An affiliate link is a special link that tracks when you visit a website through one of my recommendations. If you click that link and decide to make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.
That’s it. No hidden fees, no price changes, and no catch.
Why I Use Affiliate Links
Designing patterns, running a website, and creating tutorials all take time and resources. Affiliate links are one way I’m able to support that work while continuing to offer free content like blog posts, tutorials, and inspiration.
They also allow me to:
Keep creating size-inclusive patterns
Spend time developing tutorials and educational content
Continue sharing ideas across crochet, Tunisian crochet, and knitting
When you choose to use an affiliate link, you’re directly supporting my small business, and I truly appreciate that.
Where to Find My Affiliate Links + Discount Codes
To make things easy, I keep all of my current affiliate links and available discount codes in one place on my website.
This page includes:
Direct links to yarn companies, tools, and shops I recommend
Any current discount codes I have available
Easy access to supplies used in my recent designs
If you’re ever looking for yarn for a project or want to see what I’m currently loving, that’s the best place to start.
The Brands I Partner With
I’m intentional about the affiliate links I share. I only partner with companies and yarn brands that I genuinely use or would recommend in my own projects.
Some of the brands you may see linked here include:
Yarn companies I’ve used in my designs
Tools and supplies I regularly reach for
Shops and dyers I’ve collaborated with
If I don’t love it or would not use it myself, I do not link it.
How You Can Support (Even Without Purchasing)
Even if you’re not ready to buy, simply clicking an affiliate link can still help support my work. It lets brands know that my community is engaged and interested, which can lead to future collaborations, discounts, and opportunities that benefit all of us.
A Note on Transparency
Anytime I use an affiliate link, I will always make that clear, whether it is in a blog post, email, or social media caption.
Being open and honest with you matters to me. I want you to feel confident in what I share and why I share it.
Thank You
Whether you’re here for patterns, inspiration, or just scrolling through ideas, I’m so grateful you’re part of this community.
Your support through purchases, shares, comments, or simply being here means more than you know. 💜
